On finding a potential compound for the treatment of lung disease, researchers examined the effects of purified a polysaccharide, TFPB1, from the flower buds of Tussilago farfara on lung cancer.
In vitro, TFPB1 not only inhibited cell proliferation but also induced cancer cell apoptosis in of A549 cells.
More precisely, TFPB1 kills lung cancer cells by inhibiting the expression of kinase and proteins such as phosphorylation of Akt and Bcl-2 expression involved in multiple cellular processes including apoptosis and exhibiting the protein associated with caspase involved in pro-apoptosis such as Bax expression.
